Volunteer roles available

🏟️

At events

Events are where volunteers have the most visible and immediate impact. Opportunities include:

Event steward / ground steward

Direct competitors and spectators, monitor course areas, and support officials. No experience needed — training is provided.

Arena party / course builder

Help set up and dismantle jumps, poles, and obstacles. Physical, outdoor work — great if you love being on the ground at events.

Scorer / results entry

Record and enter results during competitions. Accuracy is key; basic computer skills helpful but not essential.

Gear checker

Pre-competition equipment inspections. Full training and accreditation provided through PCV before your first event.

Canteen / catering

Help run the canteen on event days. Social, fun, and a great way to support without being on the course.

First aid support

Qualified first aiders are always welcome. Please indicate your qualifications when expressing interest.

🏡

At club level

Clubs are the backbone of Pony Club Victoria and rely on parent and community volunteers to survive and thrive.

Club committee member

President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer. Role descriptions and templates available in Club Resources. Typically monthly meetings.

Rally helper / parent helper

Assist at regular rallies — setting up arenas, running activities, or supervising younger riders. The perfect entry point for new families.

Grounds and maintenance

Help maintain your club’s grounds, equipment, and facilities. Practical skills in fencing, machinery, or general maintenance are a bonus.

Fundraising coordinator

Help organise club fundraising, raffles, or sponsorship to keep your club financially healthy and able to provide great activities for members.

📋

In officiating

Officiating roles ensure our events run safely, fairly, and in accordance with PCV rules. Training pathways are available for all levels.

Judge

Officiate at dressage, showjumping, or other discipline competitions. Training pathways available through PCV and Pony Club Australia.

Technical delegate / course inspector

Ensure events are conducted safely and in accordance with PCV rules. Full training provided — prior knowledge of the rules is helpful.

🏛️

In governance and administration

Contribute to PCV’s strategic direction using your professional skills — no equestrian background required.

Zone representative

Represent your cluster of clubs at zone level, attending zone meetings and advocating for your clubs’ interests. Elected by club members.

PCV working group member

Contribute to PCV’s direction by joining a working group on safety, coaching, events, marketing, or membership. Skills from any background are valued.

What you’ll need

A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) — required for volunteers working with minors. Free for volunteers in Victoria.

A brief volunteer induction, completed online or in person — typically around 30 minutes.

Membership as an Adult Supporter member of PCV — we can help arrange this as part of your volunteering.

Some specialist roles (Gear Checker, Judge, Technical Delegate) require specific training and accreditation — PCV will assist you in obtaining these.
