Welcome Kath Kindler ... New State Coaching Director

Kath Kindler has stepped into the role of State Coaching Director and hit the ground running.

Kath has been the South Metropolitan Zone Chief Instructor for the past six years and a member of the Chief Instructors panel during this time.  Kath’s position on this committee and her role in zone significantly enhance her ability to continue to drive forward the strategic objectives of coach and official development around the state.

Kath was from a non-horsey family, but with a passion for horses and riding, she and her sister purchased horses in their late teens and became members of the Tooradin Pony Club.  Kath remained a member until she aged out at 21yrs.

Kath made her way to Pony Club on horseback crossing the South Gippsland Highway to get to her Pony Club rallies. Kath says that Pony Club helped her to learn how to care for her horse and to gain affordable group riding instruction.   After finishing Pony Club, Kath continued to ride, starting a young warmblood horse which she competed on up to Advanced EA level.

Kath states “I love all that Pony Club has to offer a rider.  I especially love teaching beginner riders.  I enjoy seeing them achieve milestones such as holding the reins correctly or picking up canter for the first time.”

Kath’s passion over the past 10yrs has been coaching and mentoring riders to undertake higher rider certificates.  Kath believes encouraging riders to continue past C certificate level enables them to immerse themselves in the Pony Club experience by representing Australia at international Pony Club exchanges.  However, outside of opening doors, Kath promotes undertaking higher certificates because it helps riders to become well-rounded horse people, learning skills for life that will help them to manage and care for their horse.

On a personal level Kath is mum to two boys aged 15 and 12 who enjoy playing Tennis and with her husband’s help manages to juggle her Pony Club, coaching and mum’s taxi duties.  Kath’s understanding of another sport and how it works will bring another dimension to her role here at Pony Club.

Kath is looking forward to this new challenge as State Coach Director and having the opportunity to give back and support this fantastic organisation.
